Pub Chalkboards, and especially A-Boards, work great to grab the attention of passing traffic. For The Ribble Pilot at Preston however, although we had a massive amount of passing traffic, all that was on display was the rear of the pub. There were a couple of signs fixed in place at the roadside, but simply not enough 'message'. More A-Boards weren't an option as the roadside is quite away from the pub, exposed to the wind, as well as to passing thieves!
So I simply boarded up the rear cellar room doors and applied some Chalkboard Illustration work and the result makes a huge difference.

The large artwork means that key messages can be taken in instantly and the chalkboards don't take anything away from the overall aesthetic of the pub. Actually they really brighten up what was previously a rather plain looking exterior. The Chalkboard Art can be seen clearly from the main road, which is 50 meters away!

As the doors themselves are slat paneled the whole lot was re-boarded with a smoother chalkboard surface. After the artwork was complete several coats of satin laquer was added.
